Divisional Director
The West of Scotland division was set up in 1993 and remains one of the most active divisions of the FGDP in the UK. Currently there are in excess of 120 members. Our diploma study groups have been running throughout this time as the exam changed from the DGDP, to the MFGDP and now to the MJDF. This is the first step on the career pathway for GDPs. There has been a surge of interest in this exam in recent years with our study group full each year and a waiting list for the following year. Details of how to get involved can be found below. Email Clive, Conor or Gerard. We run a very successful annual clinical study day in Glasgow on the first Friday of December. This regularly attracts an audience of over 150 dentists to hear internationally renowned speakers. Details of this year’s speaker, CRA’s Derek Hein, can be found on the home page. A PDF of the flier can be downloaded. You can even book your place with our new on-line booking system. In an effort to encourage DCP's to join the FGDP we hold evening events for the dental team and these have proved to be popular. We are also sponsoring, in conjunction with Scottish Dentist, the Scottish Dental Nurse Award and the Young Scottish Dental Nurse Award. The presentation will be made at our December Study Day. All in all, we are lucky to be part of an active and vibrant division. I would like to thank all our committee members for the time and effort they have spend helping us achieve this over the years.

This 10 part course is designed to guide and support you through theMJDF examination and runs from September to May. The 2007/08 course is fully booked but there is an open waiting list for 2008/09.

Conor O'Malley

Conor O'Malley graduated from Glasgow University in 1995. After finishing VT he returned to Glasgow University to do the MSc in Primary Dental Care. He is a now partner in a large group practice in Hamilton.
BDS, DGDP(UK), MGDS, FFGDP(UK), DipImpDent(RCS) Clive Schmulian graduated from Glasgow University in 1993. After finishing VT he was an associate for 10 years before taking over a practice in Clydebank. In addition to being a tutor for the local study group he is also a mentor for the Faculty Fellowship FFGDP(UK).
Gerard Boyle BDS, MFGDP (UK)
Gerard Boyle graduated from Glasgow University in 1989. On completion of VT he spent 10 years as an associate before becoming a partner in a practice in Shawlands, Glasgow. He is a Dental Practice Inspector with NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, an elected member of the Scottish Dental Practice Committee and is Vice Chairman of Greater Glasgow & Clyde LDC.
