Although there has been an active study group in the North of Scotland for several years, the geographical spread of the region has made it difficult to coordinate a sustained effort towards preparation for the old DGDP, MFGDP and now the MJDF. However, the opening of a new Dental School in Aberdeen in the autumn of 2008 will help to raise the profile of dentistry in the north. This provides an opportunity to recruit younger candidates who intend staying in the area. In addition, the ever improving postgraduate facilities both in Aberdeen and Inverness, will allow more experienced dentists to consider structuring their learning towards a recognised career pathway.
The MJDF qualification provides a flexible platform from which all other career pathways for dentists can be negotiated.
Chris Reekes has recently taken over as ‘Chief Tutor’ for the North of Scotland division and is determined to see candidates succeed. The group meets on the first Monday night of each month, currently in Westhill, Aberdeenshire.
Committee members from our division meet regularly with the West and East, in an effort to develop and improve our MJDF preparation programmes.
Chris or I, would be delighted to hear from you, should you wish to enrol or receive further information.
